Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation generosity
provides permanent endowment to BMP Hospital Foundation
The BMP Hospital Foundation has a strong new endowment fund at its disposal thanks
to the extraordinary generosity of a sister foundation, the Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation
(SHF).
After 35 years (1973-2008), the SHF has begun the process of winding down its
operations, distributing over five million dollars in assets amongst ten health-related
organizations or foundations across the Townships. As part of this process, the BMP Foundation
received a $400,000 gift from the Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation (SHF) in remarkable celebrations
which took place in early October at Sherbrooke.
The funds will be invested in a permanent endowment (named in honour of the
Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation) with the interest to be used each year for the purchase of medical
equipment and/or training within the BMP Hospital. Ten percent of the annual interest will also be
reinvested into the capital, to assure the longevity of the fund.
Over the years, SHF generosity has helped the BMP Hospital acquire its CT scan
unit, and upgraded medical imagery and laboratory technology to better serve our residents.
It has also helped other organizations across Brome-Missisquoi to provide improved services and
programs for our youth, for those suffering from intellectual handicaps, and to help communities
tackle the challenges of isolation and community development.
In making the presentation, SHF Board member James Atto commented “After
every visit to the BMP, we have come away impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the
special attention to patient care. The Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation's past financial support has
been received with appreciation and put to good use. This endowment will continue that
tradition.”
For its part, the BMP Hospital Foundation expresses its own appreciation for the
faithful and longstanding support which the Sherbrooke Hospital Foundation has provided to us and
to so many of our fellow organizations across the Townships. This exemplary leadership has been a
tremendous asset to the broader Townships community that we have come to value and appreciate. We
will certainly miss its leadership and support in the years to come.
