A beautiful spring evening and a full house of enthusiastic art lovers provided an
excellent backdrop for a first-class art exhibit at the Bishop’s University Campus in
Knowlton on Saturday, April 21st.
Apart from providing a marvelous evening, this unique show, featuring over 35
works from private collections by the Beaver Hall Hill group of Canadian women painters, also
raised $11,400 for the BMP Foundation.
In an era when women artists were left out of the mainstream world of professional
art, the Beaver Hall Group was the first Canadian artists association in which women played a
central role. Many of the group exhibited in the United States and England with Canada’s
all-male Group of Seven.
Many of the paintings shown came from the Eastern Townships and had an Eastern
Townships “bent”. The exhibition was hung by Conrad Graham, Curator of
Montreal’s McCord Museum. From Knowlton, the exhibit was transported to Montreal where it
formed the core of an even larger collection which was on display at the Galerie Walter Klinkhoff
from April 25th through April 28th.
The BMP Foundation extends most sincere thanks and appreciation to Mary Trudel and
her talented team of friends and supporters who conceived, organized and marketed this
impressive and most successful event. |
