St. Patrick's Day 2007 at Owl's Head was anything but
green as the annual "Challenge" was carried out in near blizzard conditions.
Notwithstanding the weather and most difficult driving conditions, over 100 skiers participated in
the race resulting in over $5,200 being raised for the BMP Foundation.
This event is a seasonal highlight for many Townships skiers. Participation
requires a donation to the Foundation of $50 (or $100 for those enthusiasts who seek preferred
starting times). We wish to extend our thanks to Fred and Lillian Korman and their staff for their
ongoing support as that entire donation goes directly to the BMP Foundation for the purchase of new
medical equipment for the BMP Hospital. Total donations from this competition since its inception
now exceed $100,000.
All participants receive a tax-deductible receipt for the full amount of their
donation, a full day’s skiing, a Bar BQ lunch on the slopes, participation in the Giant
Slalom (there are five separate categories) and a chance to win thousands of dollars in attractive
door prizes at the end of the day. This year the "highlight" prizes again included a
propane Bar BQ, an Owl's Head golf membership and a five day ski trip for two to Banff, including
airfare, courtesy of SkiBig3.com.
