Your Money at Work

As shown at right, the majority of the Foundation’s revenue (86.7%) is invested directly in health care improvement projects. A small portion (13.3%) is used to cover fundraising costs, and the administrative expenses of the BMP Foundation. (These figures are readjusted annually in accordance with the Foundation’s revenues and expenses over the previous five-year period.)

2008-2009: Your Financial Support Makes a Huge Difference!

The BMP Foundation invested $1,276,000 in new equipment and programs, training, enhanced  

technology, facilities and service improvements for the BMP Hospital and the broader CSSS La Pommeraie in 2008-2009, reported Foundation President Pierre Marziali at the Foundation’s annual general meeting held in St. Armand, on August 31, 2009.

McLean-Zeller initiative completed:

Over $644,000 of that money was invested in designated care & operating improvements, with the completion of the new McLean-Zeller Pavilion, providing new learning centre and meeting rooms, modernized nursing stations, and many other key improvements throughout a number of the BMP departments. 

Additional investments in equipment include:

  • $177,000 for a new ultrasound unit for the BMP Medical Imagery unit
  • $52,941 for a new ultrasound unit for the BMP Emergency unit
  • $44,800 for specialized mattress, bedding and bathing equipment for long-term care clients
  • $40,200 for additional orthopedic surgical equipment and systems
  • $34,557 for additional equipment for the Hospital’s  Birthing unit, including new  beds, a specialized bassinet for light therapy for newborns, a new humidification unit, a Neopuff respiration unit, and oxygen re-warming equipment
  • $25,714 for physical improvements within the BMP pediatric facilities
  • $20,405 for a new monitor-defibrillator for the BMP Emergency unit
  • $17,400 for ”bed helper” units for hospitalized  and home care patients
  • $10,200 for Mediplan software for better patient and client  management
  • $3,900 for improved food delivery equipment and services

   Investments in additional programs and facilities include:

  • $68,800 to help the CSSS La Pommeraie prepare and submit necessary request and analysis documentation for securing 60 additional long-term care beds for the region. This initiative is deemed critical, long term, in helping to free up BMP beds for chronic care patients
  • $40,400 to provide additional parking capacity at the rear of the Hospital to help alleviate some of the parking stresses at this time and in the future
  • $30,000 to  assist in  locally driven initiatives to  recruit new  physicians and health care professionals to our region

And future improvements on the way!  

Other commitments to improved health care which the Foundation is currently underwriting include

  • $3,000,000 towards the modernization and expansion of the BMP Emergency unit and the construction of new Integrated External Specialist Clinical facilities within the BMP Hospital
  • $2,000,000 towards the construction of facilities to accommodate 60 additional long term care beds within Brome-Missisquoi
  • $125,000 to help acquire and upgrade software to better manage and monitor client data and files  within BMP units
  • $68,000 to provide additional orthopedic surgical equipment and technology
  • $63,000 for additional incubators and foetal monitoring equipment for the BMP Birthing Unit
  • $55,000 for the BMP Nursing Extern program to help recruit and retain graduating nurses
  • $50,000 to introduce the AMPRO program to help reduce obstetrical risks amongst expectant mothers within our territory  
  • $50,000 to help introduce SYMO, a  pilot project within Quebec to better equip CSSSLP home care technicians to monitor and follow-up patients within their home environments
