Brome
Horseman Rides For BMP
As vacation season approaches, many will be enjoying their vacation
in different ways. None more so than Pierre Beaupré, who plans to travel horseback to Quebec
City and back.
The Brome Village carpenter leaves Saturday July 18 and hopes to do the 440 km
return trip in eight days, along the back roads by way of Danville, Victoriaville etc.
He’ll be riding Charly, his four year old gelding, whom he describes as “a good
horse, with a lot of heart.”
Together, they’ll ride from five to nine each morning, bed down for the day
at a local stable or meadow and then do another four-hour leg each evening. “At night,
I’ll have my sleeping bag, and if necessary, I’ll simply bed down beside the horse and
sleep under the stars,” he adds. He’ll carry feed in his saddlebags, which
he’ll replenish every couple of days from local feed mills along the way.
Pierre looks forward to meeting many new faces along the way. “When people
approach you as you ride, it normally brings a smile to their face.” He also hopes that that
goodwill will transfer into contributions for the BMP Hospital, a cause very close to his heart.
“I have broken both legs and one arm at different points in my life, and the Hospital has
been very good to me. If people wish to support me, I will be collecting money for this cause.
“My wife thinks I am crazy, but she supports me nonetheless. She is not a
horse enthusiast. She likes to see them in the field, but she doesn’t like riding
them.”
For Pierre the voyage is more than an adventure . . . it is also an experiment.
“If it works out, I have a second trip in mind for later on, but I’ll keep that to
myself for now,” he says with a smile. “Meanwhile when I am riding, my mind is always
going, but I am relaxed.” Anyone wishing to support Pierre in this venture can
reach him at 450-405-8618.
