BMP Foundation to invest $85,000 to upgrade Bedford CLSC X-Ray
service
Cowansville, September 2005 - The Bedford CLSC’s Medical Imagery unit and services
will soon be significantly improved thanks to an $85,000 investment by the BMP Foundation,
announced in August. The investment will enable the Bedford site to acquire a digital processing
unit and capability, and thereby benefit directly from the Hospital’s existing PACS system
(Picture Archiving and Communications System). Instead of using film as in the past, future X-rays
will be digital, and will be transferred electronically to the BMP Medical Imagery Centre for
reading and analysis by the Radiology team.
Currently X-ray films are sent
by taxi to Cowansville, a process which is expensive, time consuming, inefficient, and which cannot
benefit from the advantages of electronic transmission. The presence of the new reader and
processing unit will enable the Xrays to be transferred electronically and immediately to the BMP
centre, which is now predominantly digital. It will mean rapid response, less cost, easier and more
efficient storage, and the ability to transfer images anywhere for additional
reference/consultation when necessary.
While this investment
lies outside the BMP itself, the Foundation is pleased and confident that this new equipment will
help the CSSS La Pommeraie to meet the region’s overall radiological needs, and will assist
in delivering services to its clients within their communities.
