Participants of the BMP BBQ Party event had a great time on Father’s Day!

With over 50 deluxe BBQ boxes sold, the BMP Foundation raised a fantastic $7,000 in proceeds! This money will be used to purchase new equipment for the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital.

Participants left the Gourmet Boutique at L’Étrier restaurant on Saturday, June 19th with their hands full. To celebrate their BMP BBQ Party, each shopper received a L’Étrier BBQ box for 4 people which included chicken tournedos, pork skewers, 1 kg of ribs and a pie; as well as 4 cans of McKeown cider, a bag of sweet Jalapeno chips, 4 reusable snack bags and a BMP Foundation chef’s apron.

In addition, a draw among the buyers of the BBQ box offered additional gifts to 4 participants! One winner received a pair of tickets to a Montreal Alouettes game, courtesy of LB Avocats Inc. Three other winners each received a McKeown Cider House gift basket. Congratulations to the winners!

All of us at the BMP Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the donors and participants in this event. Thanks also to our partners and collaborators: Desjardins, L’Étrier, Domaine Bresee Winery, McKeown Cider Mill, IGA Daigneault in Cowansville and LB Avocats inc. THANK YOU!

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation is pleased to inform you that it contributed the amount of $4,000 to fund a project for a series of musical performances in the residences of the Brome-Missisquoi territory.

This series of concerts takes place in the CHSLDs in order to bring several benefits to the patients: reduction of anxiety, moment of relaxation and a change in their daily life. The residents, their loved ones and the health care workers on site have benefited from this project. In fact, five local CHSLDs have been visited in this project: the CHSLDs of the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital, of Cowansville, of Farnham, of Bedford and of Sutton.

For the first CHSLD, the geriatric ward of the BMP Hospital, the concert date was Saturday, June 26, 2021. The series continued on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 for the Cowansville and Farnham CHSLDs. The tour then ended on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the Bedford and Sutton CHSLDs.

It should also be noted that the show was only instrumental and that all musical genres were present to please everyone. For example, the musical program went from Pachellbel to the Beatles. The Foundation wishes to congratulate the musicians and especially thank theparticipants of this project!

On August 5, many participants enjoyed a unique starry evening to benefit the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation. Participants left with starry eyes and lots of memories! The VIP evening at the ObservÉtoile Au Diable Vert in Glen Sutton was a great success.

103 seatswere sold to attend the starry show. More than $12,000 was raised so that the BMP Hospital could acquire on a trabeculectomy tray which will be a novelty for all patients in the Brome-Missisquoi area.

A unique experience

Those privileged to attend the event were able to enjoy the evening in several stages. As they arrived at the foot of the ObservÉtoiles, at an altitude of one thousand feet, musician Marc-Antoine Marois drew the people in the stands in with a melody. To accompany this, cupcakes and hot alcoholic beverages were available to the public. Guests were seated in the heated bleachers of the outdoor natural amphitheatre, which is the first open-air planetarium with augmented reality!

In front of each seat was a gift bag specially designed for each participant. They could find a blanket embroidered with the Foundation’s logo to keep them warm during this cool summer evening and a bottle of water.

Once everyone was settled in, the show could begin and the privileged guests were treated to the narration of exceptional astronomers in order to enter into the history of the starry sky. At the end of the show, everyone left with their blankets and augmented reality headsets to continue enjoying the sky at home.

The entire BMP Hospital Foundation team extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in Reach for the Stars BMP, from volunteers to donors to participants. As well, the BMP team would like to extend a special thank you to the Au Diable Vert for graciously hosting the event and all courtesies extended. Thank you to our major partner, Desjardins, for its support, as well as to our collaborators: Bessette Automobile, Métro Plouffe de Bromont, Brûlerie Virgin Hill, Ungava Spirits and LB Avocats Inc.

Thursday night was the Party with BMP show at the Théâtre des Tournesols in Cowansville to benefit the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation. The show was distributed in a hybrid format, with spectators having the option of purchasing a virtual ticket or an in-theatre ticket.

Thanking BMP Hospital Employees

Party with BMP was also an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary work of the employees of the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital. The BMP Foundation decided to offer a virtual ticket to every employee who requested one. As the show remains available for 7 days following the event, employees have the opportunity to enjoy this moment of relaxation whenever and wherever they want.

For the BMP Foundation team, it was important to take this opportunity to thank the employees of the BMP Hospital. Despite the difficult conditions under which they work, the quality of care offered at the hospital remains exceptional. Thank you to them for going to work every day putting the well-being of our community first. Thank you for taking care of all of us.

Tribute to a committed volunteer

Traditionally presented at the BMP Brunch since 2016, the George Bristol Volunteer Commitment Award is designed to promote and recognize the outstanding dedication of men and women who are committed to the well-being of the BMP Foundation and Hospital community. This year, the George Bristol Award was presented at Party with BMP to an active member of the BMP Foundation. He has been involved for the past 7 years as President of the Board of the BMP Foundation and continues to act as President Ex-Officio on the BMP Foundation Board of Directors: Mr. Mario Lagimonière.

Thanks to his involvement in the last two Major Campaigns, real achievements have been made such as the establishment of the outpatient surgical clinic, the reorganization of the oncology clinic into new premises and the expansion of the orthopedic clinic.

It is with the most profound sadness that we learned of the passing of dear Mr. Wilson B. McLean on March 15.

Mr. McLean has done so much for our hospital over the years. From being a Board member to his constant contributions, and the extraordinary donation of one million dollars he arranged through the Zeller Family Foundation, in 2007, which allowed the construction of an important wing at the BMP Hospital, the McLean-Zeller Foundation.

This gift was dedicated specifically to improve the working environment and care within the hospital. The project, clearly defined and developed in collaboration with hospital employees, was approved by Mr. and Mrs. McLean.

The project had three distinct components. Firstly, approximately $250,000 to $300,000 was allocated to redesign the nurses’ stations in the medical, surgical, and intensive care units of the BMP Hospital. They were made more functional and up to date. An additional $100,000 was spent on new equipment to complement these improvements. The remainder was used to build an annexe next to the medical unit which includes a much-needed lounge for patients and their families, as well as a work area for employees and a class room for professional education.

The Executive Director of the CSSS La Pommeraie at the time, Ms. Diane Daigle, enthusiastically explained: “The magnitude of this donation is doubly exciting! Firstly, by allowing us to carry out a consultation with our workers directly involved in patient care on the care units, and secondly, by investing this exceptional amount of money where the employees have identified the most pressing needs for improvement in their work and care environment. All of us who work in this hospital environment see the potential for improvement that is often overlooked in the absence of appropriate funding. This exceptional gift has allowed us to listen more to people, to give them the opportunity to express themselves and through this exercise, employees have not hesitated to take ownership of the project. We know that our strength is our people. By investing in our staff and their work and care environment, we are encouraging a positive impact on the quality of service to the people of our region.”

We remember Mr. McLean as someone who lent a hand, whenever necessary, who always made sure that everyone was accounted for, and was always asking what else could be done.

We will miss him, his kindness, his deep love of the community. Rarely does one meet such a gentleman.

The Cowansville Legion is donating $20,000 to the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Foundation for the purchase of new technology that can be defined in three words: efficiency, safety and connectivity. The biggest challenges in the field of intensive care are the length of hospital stay, the lack of constant monitoring of the patient, the cost of hospitalization, the number of readmissions following the stay, falls in the hospital environment as well as all types of complications with respect to positioning during their passage. The solution found is the acquisition of 5 Hill-Rom® beds, one of which will be fully paid for with the Legion’s donation, which includes the new therapeutic technology Progressa Bed®.

Critical care will be more specialized and patients will be able to take advantage of various benefits. Let’s talk about these, one particular advantage is positioning and here are the different forms: positioning for optimal breathing, tilting according to specific needs, the sitting position, the position to help getting up as well as a positioning to improve walking.  The patient’s daily life will be improved and especially the hospitalization time will be greatly reduced. The bed can also take the weight of the patient, reduce the risk of nosocomial infections, muscle atrophy and bedsores, but above all reduce the time in hospital.

The safety aspect is reinforced by the integrated alarm when the patient is repositioned for different reasons related to their health condition. This product has a concept of its own called Mobility is Life® which aims to accelerate patient recovery and improve patient outcomes. StayInPlace® technology is another benefit to this tool as it allows the bed to recline when the patient sits down.

The BMP Hospital team will be able to enjoy the benefits of these advantages and care will be easier than ever since the positioning is done exclusively with the feet.

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Foundation would like to thank the Cowansville Legion for making this project a reality. Special thanks to all of the following Legions: Brome (23), Waterloo-Shefford (77), Cowansville (99), Sutton (158), Iberville (263), Philipsburg (82), Branch Auxiliary Lady (77) and District 9 Yamaska Valley.
