A new wind in respiratory therapy thanks to an in memoriam donation

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation wishes to acknowledge the generous donation received from the Lalonde and Goldhar Families in memory of their mother, Mrs. Danièle Janin-Trudeau, who passed away on July 30, 2020. Through this donation of $13,500, the Lalonde Family and the Goldhar Family wished to express their gratitude for all the good care offered to their mother by the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital.

Respiratory Therapy Department

Thanks to this In Memoriam Donation from the Lalonde and Goldhar families, the BMP Foundation has been able to fund the entire acquisition of new equipment that will facilitate the work of the respiratory therapists at the BMP Hospital:

  • A mechanical cough assist device (Cough Assist)

This device is designed for adult and pediatric patients suffering from neuromuscular impairment and having difficulty clearing their airways adequately. The addition of this device allows for faster management of patients with bronchial congestion. This reduces complications and aggravations of respiratory infections and decreases the length of hospitalization.

  • An Aeroneb device

Patients requiring invasive or non-invasive mechanical ventilation will be able to receive regular aerosol therapy using this equipment. The current pandemic complicates mechanical ventilation for individuals who need to treat their bronchospasm. The Aeroneb device increases treatment capacity and reduces complications associated with temporary interruption of treatment.

  • 19 hours of training for department staff in the use of the Cough Assist and Aeroneb

  • A professional intervention cart for massive blood transfusions

Every second counts when a patient is hemorrhaging and life-threatening. Quick and organized intervention is essential to the survival of the person when a massive blood transfusion is required. The addition of a professional quality cart allows the respiratory therapy and nursing team to intervene in a safe and ergonomic manner in the operating room.

  • Infusion pump (Perfusor Space)

This medical device assists in the administration of intravenous medications. It eases the workload of the nursing staff by injecting automatically, at the right time and with the right quantity. When there are several drugs to be administered, this represents a real time saving.

  • Storage accessories for new equipment.

With the pandemic we are experiencing, the services of the respiratory therapy department are more important than ever. By providing quality equipment, the BMP Foundation and its donors wish to support the respiratory therapists in their work. All of the equipment has been in use since the beginning of March 2021.

The BMP Hospital Foundation would like to thank the Lalonde Family and the Goldhar Family for their generosity and for the improvements that have been made to the department so that it can continue its efforts to provide the best possible care to its patients.
