Last Friday, June 9th, Sutton’s Goyette-Hill Park was full of active children! More than 500 students from Dunham, Frelighsburg and Sutton schools and more than 50 volunteers were hard at work as part of the 2023 Olympiades pour la santé!

Thanks to the commitment of the physical education teachers in the participating schools, the BMP Foundation is delighted to have been able to put on this new event designed to get our youngsters moving. Long jump, skipping rope, running – there was plenty to challenge the participants. Each student surpassed themselves and gave their best during a total of 120,000 minutes of sport! Congratulations to every one of them!

Our events coordinator, Olivia, worked with teachers and principals to deliver an innovative, kid-friendly event. It was inspiring to see these different schools working together to build something unique. Always coming up with new ideas and taking on challenges, the teachers were actively involving the kids on the field. The BMP Foundation would like to thank them for their boundless motivation!

A strong community presence

While the event was free for students, all Brome-Missisquoi citizens were invited to support them by making a donation. Thanks to all the Olympiades pour la santé donors, sponsors and collaborators, we raised $16,000 in benefits! Thank you, everyone!

As agreed, 20% of the proceeds will be shared with participating schools. The Sutton school will use its share of the proceeds to enhance its breakfast program, while the Dunham and Frelighsburg schools will acquire new proprioception and sports equipment. The BMP Foundation will purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the BMP Hospital.

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation would like to recognize an exceptional team! For the past 19 years, the Bromont 2×30 Hockey League has been raising funds for the BMP Foundation. Led by three long-time friends, Normand Dunlavey, Dr. Pincott and Gilles Rousseau, these fundraisers have raised an impressive $80,000. Thank you to them and to the entire hockey team that mobilizes every year to support healthcare in Brome-Missisquoi!

To recognize their commitment to the BMP Foundation, we were pleased to install a donor leaf with their name on our recognition tree in the lobby of the BMP Hospital. Through various activities such as the Bike-a-thon and the Move BMP Bouge, “Les amis du Doc” have truly succeeded in improving the quality of healthcare offered at La Pommeraie. A heartfelt thank you to the Bromont Hockey League 2×30!

Spring was a time of celebration for the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation. After a Sweet BMP with sugar shack meals to go, the BMP Brunch was back at the Auberge West Brome on Sunday April 23rd, 2023. These two events raised a total of $30 215 in profits! Thank you to all participants, donors, sponsors, and collaborators!

A shared project

This year, all funds raised at our events will be used to help fund two decentralized automated pharmacy cabinets at the BMP Hospital. This project complements an initiative launched by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2013. To secure the storage and administration of medications on critical and high-volume care units, decentralized automated cabinets have been installed in several BMP Hospital departments.

The BMP Foundation wishes to continue to secure pharmaceutical products in two other departments that have a high use of identified hazardous drugs and narcotics: the Birthing Pavilion and the Operating Room. The acquisition of these two decentralized automated cabinets and the training of staff in the use of this new equipment represents a total investment of $171,000. Thanks to the money raised at My Sweet BMP and the BMP Brunch, the BMP Foundation is one step closer to acquiring these two decentralized automated cabinets.

A highly anticipated BMP Brunch!

After a three-year absence, we were pleased to see that everyone was back in force for the two services of the BMP Brunch! Thanks to the raffle held at each service, the sponsors and the 321 participants, the final profit of this fundraising event reached $28,000. Thank you once again to all the participants, sponsors, and raffle partners. We were able to offer 25 great prizes at each service! Thank you also to the Auberge West Brome for welcoming us warmly with an outstanding service and a generous and delicious cuisine.

Recognizing the volunteer commitment of Mr. François Riendeau

This year’s George Bristol Award will be presented to Mr. François Riendeau, a volunteer member of the BMP Scholarship Jury since the establishment of the scholarships in 2002. A former principal, Mr. Riendeau is involved on an annual basis in the review of candidates for the BMP Cegep Scholarships and the Effie Margaret Côté University Scholarships. Always curious during interviews, he loves to discuss and discover the motivations of these passionate young people! It is with great pleasure that he has devoted his time for over 20 years to complete the process of selecting and choosing the candidates.

With this George Bristol Volunteer Award, the BMP Foundation wishes to formally thank him for his time and passion. On behalf of the young people, the next generation of healthcare providers in Brome-Missisquoi, thank you Mr. Riendeau!

Getting Sweet for the BMP Foundation

In March, maple syrup lovers were treated to the My Sweet BMP Sugar Shack event. Organized in collaboration with the Domaine de l’Artisan, participants enjoyed a feast to benefit the BMP Foundation. With 80 meals sold, the BMP Foundation is pleased to announce that it raised $2,215 in proceeds! Thank you!

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation is pleased to celebrate its 30th anniversary with you! To mark the occasion, the BMP Foundation is introducing is introducing its new look, which is modern and refined, in keeping with our history. The new colors will bring a breath of fresh air to the BMP Foundation for the next 30 years!

 A tree of generosity

With our roots firmly planted in the Brome-Missisquoi soil, the BMP Foundation tree flourishes because of each of our donors. The new logo represents just that, the leaves of our tree, the donors who care about the healthcare of our community.  The heart represents their great generosity.

The stem that connects the donors to the tree of life is a symbol of the bond between the BMP Foundation, the hospital, and its community. A single, strong, permanent stem to hold together different leaves, reminding us that every gift counts, no matter the amount. Together, the fruits of our collective generosity form a healthy tree for the improvement of healthcare in the Brome-Missisquoi region.

To highlight this unique bond between the BMP Foundation and its donors, 2023 will also see the introduction of a new donor recognition plan. With new activities to come, the BMP Foundation hopes to strengthen its ties by giving its donors the importance they deserve.

A website designed in our image

The BMP Foundation invites you to visit our new website, fondationbmp.ca, beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2022. The new website is as user-friendly as ever, with a new design and a more intuitive and dynamic layout. It is important to remain close to our community and this is undoubtedly achieved through a website that is easily accessible and that makes people want to linger on it. This is what the BMP Foundation is offering you with this new website developed in collaboration with Lotus Marketing.

Social Responsibility

To accompany this new image, the BMP Foundation is making an important shift by gradually integrating social responsibility measures. In terms of the environment, for example, the new printed products are made from recycled, recyclable or FSC-certified materials. In the coming weeks, mailings from the BMP Foundation, donated press kits and fundraising events will be designed with the goal of reducing the use of single-use materials. A specific policy on this subject is currently under review and will soon be available on the Foundation’s website. We are taking this first essential step for the environment because we want to have a positive impact for future generations.

Deep roots

The BMP Foundation has raised over $31 million in 30 years! Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who support the BMP Foundation. It is an honour to have a community so committed to the healthcare of its Brome-Missisquoi region!

Last night, October 24th, the closing evening of the 2018-2022 Capital Campaign of the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation was held. The event took place at the Domaine Château Bromont in an intimate setting with the donors and volunteers of the Campaign.

An outstanding commitment

The entire BMP Foundation team wanted to take the time to recognize the wonderful work done by each member of the Cabinet. Thanks to their mobilization, we are delighted to announce that the 2018-2022 Capital Campaign was a success! We have exceeded the $5 million goal we set at the launch of this major mobilization to reach the incredible sum of $5,202,574 raised! We are proud to be part of a region committed to improving health care with 90% of donations received coming directly from Brome-Missisquoi. Thank you!

A new Orthopedic Clinic

As part of the 2018-2022 Capital Campaign, the BMP Foundation inaugurated the new Bombardier-Beaudoin Orthopedic Clinic in 2020. The redevelopment of this clinic gives it larger, more modernized spaces that allow orthopedic physicians and the clinical team to continue to provide high quality care in an environment better suited to the needs of users. Additional technical facilities, such as medical imaging, are more easily accessible to clients with reduced mobility. In addition to the new equipment, the surface area of the new premises has increased from 241 sq² to 548 sq².

Dr. Felix Munger, orthopedist, is very excited about these changes: “Thanks to the support of the BMP Foundation, we are now working in a facility that is adapted to the reality of our patients’ needs. Being able to provide care in a welcoming, confidential, and well-designed space is a motivating factor for me and the entire Bombardier-Beaudoin Orthopedic Outpatient Clinic team. The BMP Foundation has the power to make many remarkable changes possible through community support.”

Equipment Purchases

Thanks to donors to the 2018-2022 Capital Campaign, the BMP Foundation was able to purchase over $1 million in new equipment for the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital. Among these acquisitions, 8 new cardiac monitors were purchased to improve the flow and speed of care offered. Mounted on the wall of each clinical observation cubicle, the cardiac monitors are directly and easily accessible. Staff can also monitor results directly from a new central viewing console installed at the nursing station. “Much more sophisticated, accurate and intuitive than their predecessors, they are proving to be indispensable tools in our emergency department. Our analyses can be done directly on the monitors and the monitors can be easily programmed to match the individual needs of each patient. They save us a lot of time in our workday,” explains Mathieu Giroux, nurse.

Improved Surgical Rooms

The operating room expansion project is part of the large portfolio of development projects at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS that will run from 2021 to 2031. This project must be evaluated according to the growth of the population’s needs. For the next few years, improvements to the medical equipment and physical facilities are being planned. These projects will contribute to improve the technology of the operating room and provide more user-friendly facilities for the benefit of the clientele. The Foundation is committed to maintaining open communication to take advantage of opportunities for improvement as they arise and will communicate any improvement to its generous donors in a timely manner.

Outstanding Commitment

The Closing of the 2018-2022 Capital Campaign was also an opportunity to recognize all the members of the Campaign Cabinet who volunteered to make it a success. The entire BMP Foundation team and members of the Board of Directors wanted to seize this significant moment to recognize the commitment of an outstanding individual by awarding a George Bristol Award. The George Bristol Award has been presented since 2016 and is intended to promote and recognize the outstanding dedication of men and women who are committed to the well-being of the BMP Foundation and Hospital community. During the evening, Mr. Patrick Boucher, Chairman of the BMP Foundation Board of Directors, was pleased to present the George Bristol Award to Mrs. Lola Landes, a valued member of the BMP Foundation who has been a constant presence at all our events and deeply committed to improving the health care of our community for over 30 years!

With this award, we wish to recognize her fundraising efforts including the Spring Concert from 2005 to 2014 which generated over $240,000 for the BMP Foundation as well as her role as a member of the Board. A business leader, a strong and independent woman, Ms. Landes has been involved in several major campaigns, has participated in the 2008-2013 campaign as a cabinet member and the 2018-2022 campaign as Executive Director. Always going above and beyond the call of duty, she has consistently encouraged those around her and her team to go the extra mile and that is what has allowed her to achieve amazing results!

Thank you, Ms. Landes, for your invaluable work in bringing improvements to health care in Brome-Missisquoi. As a volunteer, board member and then Executive Director from 2015 to 2020, Ms. Landes has always been involved in some way with her BMP Hospital.

Once again this year, the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Auxiliary invested in state-of-the-art equipment for the BMP Hospital. The sales from the Boutique enabled the Auxiliary to invest $40,000 in the purchase of a Chronos device for the Sterilization Department. The remaining funds were provided by the BMP Foundation to complete the purchase.

Chronos, an ecological disinfection system

Even though this unit is often unknown compared to other parts of the hospital, it is nonetheless essential to daily activities. The Chronos device is an ecological and rapid disinfection system for the disinfection of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) probes. This device will allow us to eliminate the risks related to the handling of the harmful disinfectant solution. The acquisition of the device will have a positive impact on the working conditions of hospital employees and will improve the quality and safety of the processing. While increasing the life cycle of the equipment, the Chronos system will also save time compared to the current method and therefore be more productive.

The BMP Hospital Auxiliary

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Auxiliary Boutique has been a vital part of the hospital for many years. With a team of about ten volunteers, the Auxiliaries are committed to giving their time to manage and run the Hospital Boutique. They also organize a few fundraising activities such as the Christmas Raffle which is held every year.

December was a busy month for the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation! We held three different events in the space of two weeks and now, a few weeks away from Christmas, we are pleased to be able to announce the results of all three activities combined. Once again, participants were generous and enabled the BMP Foundation to continue to support health care in Brome-Missisquoi. Thanks to them, December’s fundraising activities raised more than $52,000 in profits! THANK YOU to all donors and participants!

Doctors with a heart and an ultrasound machine on their hands

On December 2nd, 3rd and 4th, the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation held its first-ever training session for physicians. Under the direction of BMP Hospital Emergency Physician, Dr. Jean-Philippe Garant, physicians had access to intensive ultrasound training in the Emergency Department. With 25 physicians enrolled and over 100 volunteers, this fundraising training event raised money for the BMP Foundation while improving the health care offered in the BMP Hospital Emergency Department! A heartfelt thank you to the initiator of this event, Dr. Garant, as well as to all the trainers, participants, numerous volunteers and Michel Thibodeau of the Domaine de l’Artisan for hosting us.

Sonia, 34 years old, was one of the volunteers on Sunday: “I had a very good experience as a volunteer. It was very interesting to see doctors in action, to see them study anatomy and discover what they are looking for in terms of anomalies in various organs or systems. And it’s obviously very interesting to see your own organs on screen while participating! Thank you, it was a pleasure for me!”

An important mobilization

With this intensive ultrasound training in the Emergency Department, the physicians had the opportunity to continue their continuing education and to obtain accreditation according to the highest Canadian standards. This training is a key element in allowing our local doctors to speed up the diagnosis and treatment of patients, particularly in trauma.

In order to obtain this accreditation, the three days of training required the mobilization of exactly 120 volunteers! These volunteers gave their time by acting as patient role models for the physicians in training. The BMP Foundation wishes to acknowledge this important collective effort! Thank you to all our patients for a day of literally lending their bodies to science and health care in Brome-Missisquoi!

Training for nurses too!

On Thursday, December 1st, the BMP Foundation also organized a training session for BMP Hospital nurses, the Echoguided Peripheral Venous Access (EPVA) course. With this training, participants learned how to puncture upper extremity vessels, as well as saphenous veins, under ultrasound guidance.

The use of this route under direct visualization saves time in urgent situations where a central route is not really indicated and therefore offers an improvement in management. This technique also improves the quality of care by avoiding unnecessary suffering for the patient by reducing the number of ineffective attempts.

A virtuoso doctor

On Sunday, December 4th, Dr. Mathieu Gaudet, emergency physician and passionate pianist, performed at a concert dedicated to the work of composer Franz Schubert at Theatre Lac-Brome. Classical music lovers were in attendance, as evidenced by the fact that the concert hall was sold out on this Sunday afternoon. The participants were happy to be able to enjoy a concert by Mathieu Gaudet who, in addition to his medical career, has been pursuing a remarkable career as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor for the past twenty years. Thank you to all who attended and to Dr. Gaudet for performing this concert in support of the BMP Foundation.

Gifts and Dinner in Support of the BMP Foundation

On Saturday, December 10th, over 150 Holiday Festins were distributed at the Domaine de l’Artisan drive-through! We would like to thank the participants who were able to enjoy the holiday season while supporting their Foundation! The Holiday Auction ended on Monday, December 12th at 1:00 pm. 46 participants bid until the last minute to obtain the coveted prizes. The winners can now check off their Christmas gifts on their to-do list before the holidays! Thank you to all the auction collaborators and Michel Thibodeau for organizing a tailor-made holiday event!

To celebrate World Kindness Day which took place on Sunday, the BMP Foundation wanted to take the time to recognize employees who care for our community by going beyond the call of duty. Indeed, the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital has several physicians who go above and beyond in their commitment to improving health care in their region. Thank you to all these outstanding physicians and employees.

A Talented Pianist

Dr. Mathieu Gaudet, Emergency Room physician and passionate pianist, has performed on December 4^th , 2022 at Theatre Lac-Brome for the benefit of the BMP Foundation. Dr. Gaudet has been pursuing a remarkable career as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor for the past twenty years in addition to his work as an Emergency Physician at the BMP Hospital. Recognized by his peers, his first album “Le premier romantique” was nominated for Best Classical Solo or Small Ensemble Album at the 2020 ADISQ Gala while his third album “La force du destin” was nominated for the 2021 ADISQ Gala.

A training for our doctors

Thanks to the initiative of Dr. Jean-Philippe Garant, Emergency Physician at the BMP Hospital, Brome-Missisquoi physicians had access to high quality training directly in their region while supporting the BMP Foundation. During this intensive ultrasound training at the Emergency Department, physicians had the opportunity to pursue their continuing education and become certified to the highest Canadian standards. This training is a key element in enabling our local doctors to expedite the diagnosis and treatment of patients, particularly in trauma departments. All proceeds from this training will be donated to the BMP Foundation.

A training specifically for BMP nurses was also held on Thursday, December 1^st, 2022. This 4-hour training on EPVA (Echo-guided Peripheral Venous Access) was offered at an affordable cost to improve the quality of care offered and the care of patients.

An Elder-Friendly Emergency Department

Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Michèle Lucey, our Emergency Department is the second in Quebec to obtain the ACEP certification, Friend of the Elderly. This worldwide recognition attests to the excellence of the services offered to seniors. From emergency physicians to clinical staff and multidisciplinary services, everyone is trained in best practices in geriatric emergency care. In addition, expert professionals and specialized equipment for the elderly are available. “The American College of Emergency Physicians’ Elderly Friendly Bronze certification assures us that a senior, from the time he or she enters the emergency room to the time he or she returns home, will receive service tailored to his or her needs by professionals trained in his or her condition,” explains Dr. Michèle Lucey. “Obtaining this prestigious recognition is the result of more than 18 months of work. This is quite a challenge during a pandemic. (…) We want the BMP Hospital Emergency Department to serve as a model for implementing the geriatric approach in Quebec’s emergency departments,” concludes Dr. Lucey.

Concerts for residents

Before the pandemic forced her to put her initiative on hold, Dr. Karen Iny, an emergency room physician and musician, organized free concerts in the hospital lobby for the enjoyment of BMP residents. These timeless moments were greatly appreciated by our residents, who did not hesitate to sing along or dance a few steps.

Physicians on the Board

Beyond these one-time involvements, several physicians are also directly involved with the BMP Foundation Board of Directors: Dr. Élizabeth Racine, a retired family physician, has been a member of the Board for many years, Dr. Gérard Huni, anaesthesiologist, and Mathieu Giroux, nurse, have both committed to the Foundation in 2021, while Dr. Félix Munger, an orthopedist, signed on at the last BMP Foundation Annual General Meeting.

The BMP Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of these inspiring people who are committed to improving health care in Brome-Missisquoi! Thank you to all of them for going above and beyond the call of duty at the BMP Hospital!

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation and the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club are pleased to announce that the Virtual Walk to Fight All Cancers ended on Wednesday, November 2nd. Thanks to all the participants, donors and sponsors, the Virtual Walk raised the magnificent sum of more than $76,000! THANK YOU!

A virtual walk for everyone’s safety

Once again, this year, the Walk to Fight All Cancers was held virtually for one month, from October 2nd to November 2nd, 2022. For the safety of all walkers, the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club organizers decided to maintain this format which allows all participants to walk where, when and with whom they want. This flexibility is greatly appreciated by the walkers who take advantage of it to transform the event into an individual or group challenge. This is the case of Friends For Life who get together every year for this occasion! With the support of their community, these three friends raised $9,580 for the Walk to Fight All Cancers!

LJH Transport and Distribution also contributed by organizing a two-week health challenge for its employees who had the opportunity to choose their personal challenge: many chose to walk; others did push-ups and sit-ups and one employee even decided to quit smoking! LJH Transport decided to offer $10 per day for each employee who completed a challenge. Thanks to this great initiative and the motivation of the employees, LJH Transport donated $2,530 to the Walk to Fight All Cancers 2022!

Thank you to them and thank all donors, past, present, and future, who are mobilizing and walking for their hospital’s health care!

We would also like to thank Dr. Christine Cadrin, gynecologist at the BMP Hospital, who has accepted the honorary presidency of the event for another year. Several pieces of equipment to improve health care

The Walk to Fight All Cancers will help to finance the acquisition of several pieces of equipment for the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital for a total value of nearly $100,000: a new Novasure machine ($14,000), vital signs monitors ($33,000) and $50,000 worth of equipment for the Operating Room to improve the quality and access of care and increase patient comfort. The Novasure device is essential to treat women diagnosed with cancer. This system allows the ablation of the endometrium by radio frequency emission. This technique offers a safer and more comfortable procedure for patients. During treatment in the oncology department, vital signs monitors are an important addition to track patient health and allow for quick response in case of emergency. With 10 new devices installed on the walls near each treatment chair, caregivers will have quick and easy access to them.

This past Saturday, the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation was excited to host its first live BMP Oktoberfest since 2019. We are pleased to report that the turnout was great and the event was a success! Under the honorary presidency of Mrs. Solène Robitaille, Real Estate Broker at Remax Bromont, the event raised a magnificent $40,000 in net proceeds! Since launching this event in 2016, we have accumulated over $250,000 in profits! A heartfelt thank you to all the sponsors and participants who support the improvement of health care in Brome-Missisquoi!

An enchanting new location

At the Domaine de l’Artisan, the maple sugar shack, the atmosphere was magical. Twinkling lights, lanterns, Bavarian flags and beer bocks ensured an exceptional evening. The Bavarian group The Wanderers were back to share their traditional German music. They even hosted a yodelling contest that surprised many.

Of course, the three local microbrewery bars were the center of attention, but by the end of the evening, the dance floor was still full. Many participants had decided to come dressed in traditional Bavarian style, which contributed to give the impression, for one evening, that we were not in Brigham but in the heart of Munich.

Delights and surprises

Of course, the participants enjoyed the delicious sauerkraut made by Marcel Picard du Saucisson Vaudois, the fresh pretzels of the day and the desserts prepared by the Domaine de l’Artisan. During the evening, they could also go to a photobooth and leave with a small souvenir photo! In short, it was a wonderful event, and the BMP Foundation is already looking forward to the 2023 event!

Medical Imaging Needs

Proceeds from this year’s event will be directed to a special fund to address growing medical imaging needs. These projects will focus on improving functionality for staff and the patient experience during examinations.
