The Yamaska Valley Optimist Club, in collaboration with the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation, is pleased to announce the return of the highly anticipated Walk to Fight All Cancers, taking place on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 9:30 AM at the Lac-Brome Community Center.

  • Schedule of the Walk
  • 8 AM – 9:15 AM : Registrations and collected donations drop-off (you can also drop-off collected donations to the BMP Hospital office prior or after the event)
  • 9:30 AM : Start of the 5 KM walk, Adapted yoga session and 1.5 KM walk for reduced mobility
  • 10:30 AM : Start of the 1.5 KM for children

Participants are invited to walk 5 km to show their support for those affected by cancer. This year, a new route is being added to the event: a 1.5 km accessible walk designed for children and individuals with reduced mobility.

For those who prefer not to walk or who are currently undergoing treatment, a gentle alternative will be offered. Yoga teacher Laura Hernandez will lead an adapted session on-site, and a rest tent will be available to allow everyone to participate at their own pace.

We would like to warmly thank our honorary co-chairs, Dr. Christine Cadrin, gynecologist at BMP Hospital and cancer survivor, and Shelley Mizener, for their commitment and valuable support of the event. Special thanks also go to walk coordinators Lucy Davis and Judy Henderson, and the Yamaska Valley Optimist Club.

Shelley Mizener is a lifelong resident of Knowlton with family roots that go back as far as the first settlers to the area, she is also an active volunteer that believes in giving back to her community.  She currently is the president of CIDI Radio Board of Directors and the host of 2 radio shows Cultivating Community with Shelley Cash and My Dad’s Jazz and the proud mom to her infamous dog Cash! The Walk to Fight All Cancers is a cause in which she believes in as a stage 4 breast cancer survivor. By raising awareness of our community’s needs and by stewarding and leading local projects she hopes to inspire others to become involved and to connect people and organizations so that they can share their resources, time and talent for the benefit of all members of the community.

We are sincerely grateful to our sponsors: Pharmacie Jean Coutu Julie Coderre, Sabrina Parent and Olivier Martel, MNP, and Brûlerie Virgin Hill.

Fundraising Projects:

This year, community support is more important than ever to improve women’s breast health in the region. The current mammography unit has reached the end of its life and must be replaced as soon as possible to ensure continuity of breast exams for local women. By acquiring a new, more advanced mammography machine, we’ll be able to reduce service interruptions, enhance breast cancer screening, and improve access to surgical care for at-risk patients.

The Foundation is also going a step further to meet the growing need for specialized care. The addition of a contrast-enhanced mammography module will help detect lesions that are usually visible only with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This represents a major step forward in early diagnosis and faster care for certain types of breast cancer.

To bring this project to life, an investment of $500,000 is needed. The BMP Foundation is committed to providing women in our community with local access to cutting-edge technology that is essential to their health and safety. Join us in supporting this life-changing initiative — every gesture helps advance women’s health right here at home.
