Acquisitions

The Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation contributes in improving the accessibility and quality of health care provided to the population of Brome-Missisquoi.

Through the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital and the services it provides beyond its walls, the BMP Foundation helps fund the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment and contributes to the implementation of continuous improvement projects in health care and related services.

With your donations, the BMP Foundation can continue to work to support and enhance the care of our region’s residents. We thank you for your faithful and continued support.

In 2022, the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital Foundation acquired new equipment worth $484,699!

Thank you for participating in improving the comfort of Brome-Missisquoi patients! Thanks to you, the donors who care about the health care of our community, we have been able to improve the care offered and the working conditions of the nursing staff. Thank you!

Among these recent acquisitions, the installation of 44 new beds in the various facilities of La Pommeraie (Bedford, Sutton, Cowansville, Farnham and BMP Hospital) represents 50% of the total amount invested. A necessary change for the well-being of each patient who can now enjoy a comfortable bed that can be modied and adapted to the needs of the patient and the caregiver.

The BMP Foundation funding also allowed for the purchase of 4 new telemetry boxes as well as the upgrade of the monitoring console. These small hand-held transmitters installed on selected
patients allow them to continue to monitor their heart rate remotely and admit them to a room, freeing up a bed in the emergency observation area. This purchase doubles the number of telemetry boxes available for patients.

For over 30 years, the BMP Foundation has made numerous acquisitions. Here are the main ones:

In 2021, the BMP Foundation has made acquisitions totaling over $155,000:

Participation in the implementation of a mobile unit (bus). During its 47 outings throughout the Eastern Townships, the unit made it possible to vaccinate more than 2,500 people against COVID-19.

  • Acquisition of 20 digital tablets to maintain contacts between families and seniors in the CHSLD of la Pommeraie. In 2020, when the residents of the CHSLDs were isolated, the BMP Foundation decided to provide the staff with digital tablets. This allowed residents to stay in virtual contact with their families. The CHSLD in Sutton has found innovative ways to use these devices:  “With the tablets, we can organize a small concert or show for people who are bedridden, or play music at the nurses’ stations when residents gather nearby.” says Elizabeth Murray, Special Education Technician CHSLD of Sutton.
  • 4 acquisitions for the Inhalation Therapy Department:
    • 6 Infusion Pumps that assist in the administration of intravenous medications and lighten the workload of the nursing staff by giving the injection automatically, at the right time with the appropriate quantity needed.
    • One aeroneb device to facilitate the treatment of patients requiring mechanical ventilation and to increase their comfort during hospitalization.
    • One mechanical cough aid. The addition of this device allows to quickly bring relief to patients suffering from bronchial congestion.
    • One storage cart specific to the massive transfusion protocol, which allows for rapid and mobile management of patients in respiratory distress.
  • Acquisition of safety equipment for patients receiving home care. This allows users to stay in their homes longer while receiving care and reduces the need for short and long term hospitalization.
  • 2 acquisitions allowing more advanced ophthalmology procedures that were previously not available within the Brome-Missisquoi territory:
    • A trabeculectomy tray for the Operating Room. Patients suffering from glaucoma may, depending on the severity of the disease, require medical or treatment to reduce intraocular pressure and prevent visual field restriction, such as trabeculectomy.
    • An autofluorescence module that allows a better evaluation of patients who present inflammatory eye disease. This technology is essential to detect changes in the retinal layers of the eye and prevent severe optic nerve degeneration.
